Synology ActiveProtect Manager License (1 Node, 3-Year)
Licensing Plan
ActiveProtect Manager allows you to group multiple backup servers into a cluster (called a site) and designate one ActiveProtect appliance as the management server. This management server centrally oversees all backup servers and their protected workloads. By default, each site supports up to three backup servers (including the management server) without requiring additional licenses. To add more than three backup servers to a single site for centralized management, you will need to purchase an ActiveProtect License Pack.
Refer to the table below to determine when ActiveProtect license packs are required:
License Requirements
ActiveProtect cluster components | Description | License required |
---|---|---|
Backup server | Backup servers are the core of an ActiveProtect site and include two server types: ActiveProtect appliance and Synology servers running Active Backup for Business. | Yes, each backup server will count as one unit. |
Remote storage | Remote storage allows users to retain data for extended periods and includes two types: cloud object storage services (e.g., C2 Object Storage or AWS S3) and Synology servers running ActiveProtect Vault. | No |
Hypervisors | Hypervisors are used to create sandboxed environments for restoration drills or software testing. | No |
License Activation and Management
Users can activate and manage ActiveProtect license pack(s) via their Synology Account. As long as an ActiveProtect site has been assigned, users don’t need to add licenses for each managed server. Click here to learn more.
License Enforcement
ActiveProtect appliances include an enforcement mode that prohibits users from creating new backups and backup copies for the entire site once your ActiveProtect licenses have expired. Please renew your licenses to ensure that your data is thoroughly protected. You can activate your license pack immediately or after an active license expires.
ActiveProtect Manager requires internet access for license information. If users have not had internet connectivity in the past 14 days, they will be prohibited from creating new backups and backup copies for their entire ActiveProtect site.
